A unique mentoring-based experience designed around you

You’ve done a lot of thinking and planning; you’re a couple of chapters in or maybe you even have a complete draft. Wherever you are in the process, it’s time for a week of immersion in your project with an experienced writer and mentor who is there to give you specific feedback on a substantial portion of your work and guide you to the next level with tailor-made exercises, goal-setting, strategy sessions designed just for you.

You’re committed to the project. Make good on that commitment by gaining some direction, feedback, guidance, inspiration and motivation from people who know how to get writers writing and writing well.

What do you need to write? To open the creative floodgates, put pen to paper and let it flow?

That’s something we think about every day at Circle of Misse. And we’ve discovered some answers. You may need:

  • Peace and quiet
  • Freedom from the everyday
  • Encouragement
  • Nurturing
  • Pampering
  • Someone to cook and clean
  • The support of peers
  • Individual attention
  • A Creative Cocoon
  • Space to write
  • Stimulation not distraction
  • A supportive teacher

. .

Above all you need to be treated as an individual. Room of one’s own. To have a chance to work in a structured environment and receive guidance that makes sense to your particular writing project. These concepts form the core of 'A Writer Progresses'.

Open to all skill levels, working in all narrative forms, our popular, highly praised 'A Writer Progresses' course creates the environment where you can move your book forward in an inspiring, nurturing setting. It combines the strengths of private tutoring and mentoring with the dynamics of a writing group and master class.

  • Dynamic morning sessions combine teaching, discussions, examining illustrative texts, writing exercises tailored specifically to your project and excursions to local sites into activities that allow our conscious minds and "inner critics" to get out the way so we have fun trying new approaches to our writing projects
  • Daily one-to-one intensive mentoring sessions with your course leader to discuss your project, receive manuscript feedback and develop strategies to move you forward
  • Afternoons free to write with a writing coach ‘on call’ to help motivate, provide prompts and feedback
  • Opportunity to submit work for feedback daily
  • Chance for walks, excursions to local sites, and a vineyard visit
  • Wonderful meals and fabulous pampering

Past participants will tell you (and their comments fill this site), something special happens here and it truly becomes a creative cocoon where you can relax and explore your writing.

We strictly limit the course to a maximum of four participants, offering an individual holistic approach that meets you where you are and pushes your creative writing project to the next level whatever its current form or stage of development.

After you book, we will ask you about your writing, what you’re working on or want to work on and what you want to accomplish during your time in Misse. Then your course leader will build the course around those goals.

'A Writer Progresses' is an exceptional and we believe unique opportunity to get substantial mentoring and manuscript feedback in a wonderful holiday atmosphere.

Select from the dates below. Spaces are limited to 4 per course, that’s just 16 places for 2012, so don’t delay.

What You Say:

Thank you so much for (yet another!) fantastic week. It is such an inspiring environment at Missé, full of warmth, encouragement and warm-cooked comfortable goodness. Thanks so much for opening your home to this remarkable experience, and allowing me the opportunity to both focus on writing and let go with my imagination. It's always an honor.

You offer a truly unique experience which is why I cross the world to return to Misse and keep coming back.
The retreat for 4 days, plus 'A Writer Progresses' with Liz gave me the best of writing worlds. I've lived the dream. Perfect!

When I get home I am having a reversible bracelet made. When I sit in front of my laptop, seeking the creative impulse I will make sure the bracelet is turned to the side that says "What would Wayne do?" Then when I enter the kitchen seeking inspiration I can turn it to the side that says "What would Aaron do?" Thanks for a fantastic week.

What a great week. Good conversation, concrete feedback on how to "carefully" improve my writing. Motivating and fun. Thank you so much!

Thanks all at Misse, for forgiving my intitial city rudeness, settling me in. For being supportive of my writing and too, of course, for wonderful food!

I came, I saw, I tasted lots of good food & wine but most of all I extended my writing skills, being pushed and challenged but also supported. Lots of thanks to Aaron, Wayne, Emma & my fellow writers, cooks & artists. I still have lots to learn so I'm sure I'll be back, again.
