Courses
Actual course schedules vary depending on subject, course leader and time of year, but the following very basic outline gives you a general idea. You’ll receive a more detailed schedule prior to the start of your course.
Five-Day Courses
Wednesday
A fairly flexible day with folks arriving at different times at various places. We pick you up at your designated airport or train station and transport you to your accommodation where you can freshen up and relax. Depending on everyone’s arrival times, we offer an afternoon snack and an optional activity, such as a walk, or tour of our local church.
If all participants arrive early we kick things off with a welcome drink, and a brief overview and introductions. If not, we do the introductions and overview during cocktail hour and dinner. Before dinner, cooks will run through health and safety procedures and prep the kitchen for the next day.
All participants should plan to arrive before 18:00 if possible.
Evening - Cocktail hour followed by a delicious dinner. If we haven’t already, we’ll do introductions and the course overview. Writers may do some verbal warm-up exercises to get ready for the next day. Painters will do an equipment overview and prepare for the next day. Cooks will do some tasting and menu-planning. Depending on the time of year we may go for a stroll down to the river for an after dinner drink, or simply relax in the garden.
Thursday - Saturday
Morning -- Work Session
Lunch
Early Afternoon -- Work Session
Mid-to-late Afternoon -- Free-time/Excursion
Evening -- Cocktail hour followed by dinner
Writers and painters will eat one lunch and cooks one dinner at a restaurant.
Sunday
Much like Wednesday, things are flexible depending on individual departure times.
Morning -- Farewell Breakfast/Brunch. Some course leaders may do an informal session during this time, and cooks can help with some of the preparation, if they like. It’s mainly a fun time to chat, enjoy some good food, and relax before your journey home. We understand some participants may need to catch early planes or trains, so we’ll pack your brunch in a lovely box for you to enjoy en route and make sure you get there on time.
The course ends at 13:00.
