Biography

Emily Midorikawa holds an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia. She has led writing workshops in schools and libraries, for the Open University, New York University and Cambridge University, amongst others.

Over the course of her career so far, Emily’s work has appeared in various magazines and anthologies, including Aesthetica, Dream Catcher and Mslexia.

Over the course of her career so far, she has won various awards for her writing, including a six-month mentoring scheme placement that allowed her to work with the author Jane A. Adams. Emily’s writing has appeared in magazines and anthologies, including Aesthetica, Mslexia and the UEA anthology Otherwheres.

Having occasionally taught classes of up to forty participants, Emily is looking forward to working with much smaller groups at Circle of Missé.

For a tutor, knowing in advance that there will be a maximum of just four participants to a group is a real advantage. It means I can be confident that everyone should quickly become relaxed in the company of their fellow writers, and that the group sessions will be good fun as well as challenging, constructive and supportive.
During the time we spend together, there will be opportunities for one-to-one feedback and group workshopping, writing exercises directly related to the projects individuals are working on, discussions about the craft of writing, and solitary writing time too. Having thoroughly enjoyed my time at Missé last year, I’m really looking forward to returning to teach another course in 2012. I look forward to seeing you there!

Emily's testimonials:

Emily stripped my novel down, gave it a severe talking to, told me to lose Chapter One and two entire characters, remorselessly hunted down its minutest flaws - yet I love her for it and know she's right. Quelle finesse!

Julie, May 2011

Just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed Emily’s teaching. She’s been rigorous, objective and yet supportive. A rare combination...Writing matters more than most activities, so to have a tutor with these unusual gifts has been very important.

I have learnt so much in such a short amount of time and I must say that it is the best course I have ever undertaken.
