Matt Morrison

Biography

Playwright Matt Morrison runs the creative writing degree at the University of Westminster and has advised on scripts for The Soho Theatre, The National Theatre and the BBC. His play ‘Through the Night’ was one of four recently selected out of 600 entries for the Papatango/Finborough New Writing Festival, 2011. His dramatic monologue ‘Inside Out’ was produced at the inaugural HighTide festival and his next play ‘Brightest and Best’ opens in February 2012, directed by Natalie Ibu.

He has also written work for theatres and companies including the Gate Theatre, Clwyd Theatr Cymru, DryWrite, The Miniaturists, The Old Vic Tunnels, In The Same Boat and Menagerie. His play ‘Marchers’ was developed in conjunction with The National Theatre Studio and performed at The White Bear Theatre.

He has been a finalist in several BBC sitcom and sketch-show awards and for two years he was the Literary Manager of Theatre503, London’s most dynamic venue for up-and-coming writers.

He also writes short stories, radio comedy for the BBC, contributing to The Milk Run on Radio 1 and The Consultants on Radio 4, and has two books: Key Concepts in Creative Writing (Palgrave Macmillan) and Big Questions: Incredible Adventures in Thinking (Icon Books).
