A Writer Prepares & A Writer Progresses 2-9 June led by Matt Morrison. Now at a special price for a limited time. Check the costs page for details.

What's OnMatt runs the Creative Writing department at London’s University of Westminster and has wide experience in mentoring both dramatists and fiction writers. He has taught at Circle of Misse for 7 years, mentoring several CofM alumni. Matt’s plays have been performed at theatres including The Riverside Studios, The Finborough, The Arcola, Wilton’s Music Hall, The Gate, Theatre Clwyd and The Old Vic Tunnels. He was one of the winners of the 2011 Papatango New Writing awards and his play Inside Out was produced at the inaugural HighTide festival. Matt’s published work includes: The Soho Theatre 1968-81 (STR, 2018); Key Concepts in Creative Writing (Palgrave Macmillan, 2010); Big Questions; incredible adventures in thinking (Icon Books, 2007). Matt has a first class degree in philosophy and a doctorate in theatre history.

A Writer Progresses 9-16 June led by Kirstan Hawkins.

What's OnKirstan is a novelist and anthropologist. The author of Dona Nicanora’s Hat Shop, published by Penguin, she teaches on the Novel Studio programme at City University London and mentors several writers each year to the completion of their manuscripts. Many of her students have found representation as a result of the work they did with her. She has mentored writers at CofM for the past 6 years. She studied anthropology at Edinburgh University and has travelled extensively in her work in Africa, Latin America and Asia. She carried out fieldwork for her degree among the Ashaninka Indians of the Peruvian Amazon, and for her Ph.D. she spent time in the altiplano of Bolivia. Her first novel was based on material gathered in Bolivia while researching for her PhD in anthropology and international development. Her interest in anthropology is driven by the same fascination that underpins her writing: to understand the world from different viewpoints and to gain the ‘insider’s perspective’ in different situations and contexts.
