You’re at a place with your work where you are not looking for mentoring or feedback. You have a solid plan and just need the space and time away to write. Come write in a warm, supportive and inspiring environment where someone else looks after you in style.
How does it work? We provide a conducive workspace, a comfortable room with a writing desk in one of our large beachside apartments, all your meals, encouragement and informal chit-chat when you want to be social. Besides that we stay out of your way and let you get down to work. You set your own goals and work independently.
- Barbara (Stafford, UK)
We've designed our properties to fit the needs of the working writer – practical, inspirational and comfortable. There is the unobtrusive murmur of home life and the aroma of seasonal ingredients cooking in the kitchen, along with the creative hum of your fellow writers busily and quietly working on their own projects.
Located next to the beach, with a stunning backdrop of mountains, San Juan is laid back and chilled out, there are lots of little coves to explore, a walk up to the castle with wonderful views. There are lots of places to write on the beach, set up on the promenade, or tap on your laptop in one of the local beachside cafes. There are some little shops a ten minute walk away. There will also be optional excursions to nearby sites such as Nijar, famous for hand painted pottery; Tabernas, the only desert in Europe; Mojacar, a beautiful hilltop pueblo town and the riverbed where scenes from Lawrence of Arabia were filmed.
What's it like? You'll be here with up to three other writers. You will have your own room with a comfy bed, writing desk and wardrobe. There are also opportunities to write in the lounge/library, and outside on one of two terraces and down at the beach. We focus on making things as conducive as possible to writing. We stay out of the way during the day so you can write, we have an ‘always on' coffee and tea making station with other beverages and snacks available to you at all hours and we present breakfast continental style each morning for you to take at your leisure. Lunch can be taken in the dining room, the terrace or delivered to you at the beach, should you choose to continue working.
- Martine (Maastricht, NL)
We get together as a group for dinner and celebrate the accomplishments of the day over some excellent wine and food.
But what if I get stuck? All retreats include an optional free hour of coaching from one of our writers-in-residence to help you get stuck in and stay on course, if you'd like the extra support, feedback and encouragement. If not, that's fine too, we'll stay out of your way and let you get down to it.

Schedule: Breakfast is available each day from 08:00. Lunch 13:30. Cocktail(Mocktail) hour 19:00. Dinner 20:00.
Travel Details: Our main airport and pick-up/drop-off location is Murcia (San Javier) Airport.
We've coordinated with the EasyJet Flight from London Gatwick (Flight EZY8553 arriving 18:25 on Saturdays) and the return flight from Murcia to Gatwick (EZY8554 departing 19:00 on Saturdays).
For those not originating in or transiting through London, Alicante Airport is likely the best option with more flights to destinations all over Europe and beyond. There is a direct bus from the airport to Murcia that is easy, frequent, and affordable (English spoken, picks up right outside the airport terminal, four or five buses a day, and costs €6). We will collect you in Murcia. We will coordinate pick-up times with those of you traveling via Alicante. As always, please let us know of any questions or help you need sorting travel. Happy to help.
Accommodation: We've selected a couple of large beachfront apartments in the same beautiful gated development for their location, views and relaxing qualities. You will have a room with a comfy bed, a writing desk, a wardrobe and other creature comforts to make it a productive week for you. We've optimized the communal areas, including a huge covered balcony (there are pictures of it on this page) so you can work and chill in comfort. There is space for up 4 retreaters at a time spread out over the two properties.
Meals & Drinks: Breakfast, lunch & dinner each day, including wine & cocktails. Coffee, tea, juices, soft drinks and snacks available all the time.
Cost: £595 (includes EVERYTHING except travel to Spain). To secure a place a deposit of £165 is due at the time of booking; the balance is due 45 days before the retreat begins.
