About Circle of Misse

Circle of Misse was founded in 2010 as a place where writing and creative work could be given the time and space they deserve.

The house at Misse first came into my life more than thirty years ago, a refuge from the city and a place of quiet focus where I could practise, study, and reflect on new musical works. Some years later, my husband Wayne joined me here, drawn by the same creative energy that the house seemed to hold. It became a place where writing flourished as naturally as music.

We discovered how profoundly a change of pace and environment could nourish creative work, and we wanted to offer that experience to others. Circle of Misse grew from that shared conviction.

Circle of Misse was built together with my husband Wayne, whose generosity, intelligence, and belief in the written word shaped its early years. Although he is no longer with us, his spirit remains present in the quiet concentration and generous exchange that continue to define our retreats.

We believe that life is at its richest when we make space for the work that matters to us. That belief underpins every retreat, course, and residency we offer — time to write, to think, to read, and to engage deeply with craft in the company of others who care about language.

Like many of our participants, we have balanced creative ambitions with professional responsibilities and family life. We understand how difficult it can be to protect writing time. Misse has always been a place where that balance becomes possible, and it continues to offer writers a setting that supports both solitude and conversation.

Circle of Misse remains, above all, a place for focused work, thoughtful exchange, and creative renewal. We look forward to welcoming you.
